Dhaka Metro Rail is an electric vehicle.To decongest Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, the government launched the Dhaka Metrorail. Metrorail is the short form of Metropolitan Rail.  Metro Rail is a railway system established for public transport around the important areas of the metropolis.  It is an electric vehicle.  The project of this metro rail system is named as ‘Mass Rapid Transit’. Dhaka Metrorail is a vehicle with more modern facilities than a train.  It is usually powered by electricity.  It is used to decongest in places where there is a lot of traffic congestion, where traffic congestion is a daily occurrence in the city.  Traffic congestion is also a daily problem in Dhaka city of Bangladesh.  It has been launched in Dhaka to decongest Dhaka city. A loan agreement was signed between the Government of Bangladesh and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on February 20, 2013 for the implementation of the Metrorail project. 21 thousand 985 crore 59 lakh taka has been spent for the implementation of this metro rail project.  Zika will give 75% of that and the rest will be given by the government.  It will run from Uttara to Motijheel.  It will have 16 stations.  This route will be about 20 km long.  As this is done to prevent traffic jams, this metro rail route will be flyover.  In the first phase, there will be 9 stations from Uttara to Agargaon.  These stations are Uttara Dakshin, Uttara Centre, Pallabi, Itemti, Mirpur-10, Farmgate, Taltala, Kazipara, Agargaon. Also there will be Vijay Sarani, Sonargaon, National Stadium, National Museum, Doel Chatwar, Bangladesh Bank stations.  Each train will have a total of 6 coaches.  14 trains will run on Motijheel route from Uttara.  This train can carry about 1500 passengers.  This train has 942 seats and 574 passengers can travel standing.  Each compartment is spacious and air-conditioned.  Each train will leave after 40 minutes.  The speed of which will be 32 km per hour and it will take 35 minutes to go from one station to another station.  40 second stop at each station.  The fare of this train is fixed from a minimum of 20 taka to a maximum of 100 taka. Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the construction of the country’s first Dhaka  metro rail project on June 26, 2016. Honorable Prime Minister inaugurated the first phase of construction work from Uttara to Agargaon 12 km on August 2, 2017.  On August 29, 2021, the Metrorail was shown experimentally running for the first time over the viaduct from Diabari to Mirpur No. 12 station.  While the entire project is targeted to be completed by 2024, the first phase Diabari to Agargaon section was inaugurated for public traffic on December 28, 2022 by Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opened to public on December 29, 2022.  Metrorail from Agargaon to Motijheel in the second phase of MRT-6 line started on trial run on 7th July 2023.  Passenger transport is currently running on the Agargaon-Motijheel section and may be operational upto Kamalapur by 2025. Dhaka  Metrorail is a milestone for Bangladesh.  This dream metrorail will contribute to the progress of the country.  This metro rail has added relief to the people of Dhaka city.  Every day thousands of passengers are traveling in this metro rail.
